Ingredients
For 12 servings:
- 1 kg of all-purpose flour
- 350 gr of margarine
- 4 eggs including 1 for the gilding
- 25 cl liter of water
- 25 cl liter of milk
- 3 large spoons of baker's yeast or 2 small sachets of super active baker's yeast
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 level tablespoon of salt
- A little powdered nutmeg, liquid vanilla or powdered cinnamon. (optional)
Preparation
- Dissolve the baker's yeast in 3 to 4 tablespoons of lukewarm water (not boiling).
- On a work surface, mix the flour, margarine, sugar, salt and flavorings.
- You then obtain a homogeneous paste.
- Add the yeast, milk, and water.
- Knead, then add the eggs.
- Knead again.
- If you deem it necessary, add more flour because the dough should not stick to your fingers.
- Roll it into a ball and let it sit for two or three hours in a warm place.
- Once the dough has risen, knead there a little.
- Braid it or make it into beautiful patterns.
- Take the egg intended for the gilding and add the liquid vanilla or cinnamon powder to it.
- Using a brush, put the mixture on the top of the braids.
- Bake on a baking sheet covered with baking paper until it browns well in the oven at 180°C.
