Carnival

Martinique was the first American territory to celebrate Carnival. This festival, which celebrates the last days before the Lenten fast, consists of 4 days of popular parades in all the island's communes, the largest parade being that of Fort-de-France.

From Dimanche Gras, when the giant puppet named Vaval is presented, to his incineration with great pomp and ceremony on Ash Wednesday, the crowd sings, dances and jumps in a lively atmosphere.
