History

Le Morne-Vert is a town in northern Martinique located east of Carbet, north of Bellefontaine, Case-Pilote and Schoelcher and west of Fonds-Saint-Denis.

Le Morne-Vert owes its name to its topography made up of numerous hills and its greenery.

Like Bellefontaine, it is one of the most recent towns in Martinique. Indeed, it is necessary to reach February 10, 1949 to see it be erected in municipality. It is located at the foot of the Pitons du Carbet.

The territory of the current municipality of Morne-Vert quickly welcomed the first French settlers in the wake of Saint-Pierre and Carbet. Its history is also combined with this last town until 1949.

Within Carbet, Morne-Vert was only a village called "Chapel" because there was a small chapel where the priest of Carbet came to say mass twice a month.
