This hike requires leaving a car on arrival. For this you will have to join the Route de la Trace linking Morne Rouge to Fort-de-France. 2 km after the Deux Choux crossroads, park in the roadside car park next to the O.N.F sign.
To get there there. After passing the Plateau Boucher, at the Deux-Choux crossroads, take the RD1 towards Gros Morne. At about 1.5 km, park at the O.N.F sign.
La Trace des Jésuites remains THE hike in Martinique even if the Morne Larcher is becoming more and more popular. It owes its name to the religious who borrowed it during the 17th century. You will be immersed in the heart of nature in the tropical forest where you can fully enjoy the freshness that the site offers. The Domaine d'Émeraude is nearby.
This hike can be done in reverse. It is marked with yellow and white markings to facilitate your route.
During your walk, you will see white gum trees, chestnut trees, river woods and magnolias. Regarding the points of view, it is no less the Mount Pelée which will offer you its best profile.
Be careful, this hike is not recommended in rainy weather, the water can rise quickly in the Lorrain river and this hike requires you to ford the river.
- After seeing the entrance sign for the hike, go down via the stairs and then head to the trail in the forest among tall trees covered with vegetation.
- Ford the Lorrain river. You will have to cross it again two more times before going back into the forest.
- Near the finish line you will have a breathtaking view of Mount Pelée.
- Join the car park where you left a car for the return trip.
