Îlet Thierry is one of 8 islets in François. He is known to be close to the îlet Oscar separated by beautiful Baignoire de Josephine.
It is 10 minutes in calm waters navigation. Protected by the coral reef and bathed in the turquoise blue waters and shallow lagoons, its 15 hectares of tropical vegetation offers a mosaic of landscapes and unique corners.
Îlet Thierry was born from coarse volcanic eruptions that certainly comes from the îlet Oscar nearby. With a star shape, it is approximately 30 meters above the level of the sea.
The north and east are made of sharp cliffs while the South and West end in small coves separated from each other by ds moderately marked escarpments.
This islet has a large grottte (35 meters long and 15-20 meters wide). It is covered with blunt rollers on which accumulated thick layers of algae.
The vegetation consists mainly of grasslands with young forests. Trees such as mancheenels trees, the mahoganys and pear trees make up most of the vegetation of the islet. One can also find cactus, almond, cheesemonger and flamboyant.
The yellow warbler is the volatile the most present on this islet but we also find the bananaquit and many species of hummingbirds and doves square tail.
Mosquitoes are rare.
In addition, many providers allow you to go there to visit and bathe in the surrounding white backgrounds.
It is an islet frequented on a daily basis. It is visited by about a hundred tourists every day with peaks during the period of summer holidays or weekends of Easter and Pentecost.
In order to guarantee the biological balance of the environments and the conservation of the spaces necessary to the feeding, the reproduction and the survival of the protected plant and animal species, it is established a zone of protection of the biotopes on the completeness of the Thierry islet since January 2005. This islet is since July 28th, 2007 registered as "registered site" by ministerial decree.
