House of Sugarcane / Maison de la Canne

The House of the Sugarcane became Sugarcane Museum is located in an old distillery. It traces the evolution of sugarcane in the last three centuries.

It is located in the district Vatable in Trois-Ilets on an area of more than two hectares. The Museum of the cane is the result of a research project and collection conducted on the sugar industrial heritage by the Association Martiniquaise de la Maison de la Canne (AMMCA) directed mainly teachers from Lycee Schoelcher (high school).

The purpose of this association was to save traces of sugar past of Martinique who had been a real deterioration of its sugar plantations and the disappearance of central factories.

Since 1991, the Regional Council, which supported the project, was awarded the management of the Museum, which enjoyed strong number of visitors.
