The Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions (Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires) was created in 1987 by the Association "Les Coulisses", the former name of the commune of Saint-Esprit.
It is a living memory of the history and cultural heritage of Martinique. Its purpose is to preserve the genuine achievements in the history of the island. Today it is managed by the Office du Tourisme.
The Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions is located in the buildings of the former college and includes 3 rooms:
- "Les Coulisses": This room includes geological history of Martinique and specifically of Saint-Esprit, some texts and objects evoking the religious aspect of the commune and the slavery period.
- "Gran Kay" : This room is reserved traditionally furnished mansions and town houses. Creole costume is also set exposure.
- "The Ri Kaz Nèg" : Here is the reality of peasant life of the early century (wooden boxes ti balm recreated cabrouet, pack mule, etc ...).
The visitor is also plunged into the flow of the regulated universe.
