Nord-Plage

"Nord Plage" is a neighborhood on the north Atlantic coast of Martinique away from all other photos "postcard". Indeed, the district facing the sea is a group of houses blackened by time, some ripped and some in ruins, despite the danger that the area is, it continues to be inhabited.

Local authorities have taken steps to relocate the remaining inhabitants of this district because the cliff just above could cause large losses in case of cyclone or hurricane. Its history is closely linked to Catholicism, very powerful on the island, because the path to the district serves as Stations of the Cross during Easter.

In addition, according to legend, a cave that is a replica of the Lourdes have witnessed an apparition of the Virgin. The site continues to attract many pilgrims visiting the cave or the Stations of the Cross.

A film called the same name was filmed in this area in 2004 and was released in cinemas in France with as main actors, Pascal Légitimus and Viktor Lazlo.

You can access it via the D10. If you are heading to Grand River follow the D10 in the direction of Basse-Pointe and vice versa in the opposite direction, still on the same street.
