The "saut gendarme"

The cascade of "saut gendarme" owes its name to the stop for refreshment and to drink the amount policeman horses in Saint Pierre or the fall of a policeman. This is also the place where the police were hiding in order to catch the looters from looting the city of Saint Pierre then in ruins after the eruption of Montagne Pelée.

It is a pleasant fall environment. The waterfall continues at a height of about 10 meters, offer a refreshing swim at all hikers visiting the site.

Tables and benches are available for those wishing to picnic. A walk is possible towards the Montagne Pelée via Route de Trianon or Morne Calabasse.

However, to hike there it is strongly recommended to be in good physical condition and also to be well equipped. It is a popular place for tourists and locals.

To get there, it is advisable to follow the direction Fonds Saint Denis. Following a tour of a steep road, signs will indicate the waterfall "saut gendarme". A small parking permits to park his vehicle.
