Édith Lefel was born in Cayenne on November 17, 1963, to a Guyanese mother and a Martinican father. Her mother named her "Edith" after the singer Edith Piaf, of whom she was a fan. She spent the first three years of her life in French Guiana before following her parents to Martinique.
She grew up in Martinique, then at the age of 14, she left for mainland France in the Paris region. Her career began in 1984, when she went on tour in the Caribbean.
But it is in 1987 that her career really takes off, when she meets the group Malavoi with whom she will work. They invited her to the Zenith in Paris. A year later, she released her first album "La Klé" and in 1992 the second "Mèci".
In 1996, Edith Lefel publishes her third album, "Rendez-vous" and knows the consecration, her first big solo concert at the Olympia. Édith Lefel will collaborate thereafter with the singer, author, composer Ronald Rubinel who composed many songs for her. It will also be his long-time companion and the father of his twins.
In 1999, Edith Lefel fan of the singer Edith Piaf and to whom she owed her first name pays tribute to his elder by a single "Edith Lefel sings Edith Piaf".
She died in Dreux of a heart attack on January 20, 2003, just one month after the release of her last album: "Si seulement". She will be buried in the Parisian cemetery of Père Lachaise in the same cemetery as her idol Edith Piaf.
