The Madras is a woven fabric with bright colors that draw a grid. The madras fabric arrived in the West Indies there are more than 150 years by the Indians from India who had come to replace the slaves who had gained their freedom after the abolition of slavery in 1848. The madras is completely entered the local custom for the descendants of slaves women quickly adopted to make clothes for their children.
Since, the madras is an integral part of the local clothing the madras is used for the design of local traditional outfit for women and men. If young people have abandoned the madras in favor of clothes more "European" and "American", the elderly continue to wear madras outfits for special occasions.
