Located in the town of Sainte-Luce approximately 4km from the center, the Montravail forest is a paradise for hike and nature lovers.
Located 250m from the sea level on the hills of the city, this 75-hectare forest is a rainforest where numerous species of flora, numerous ravines and steep slopes play an important role in the protection of soil and regulation of the local river drainage. Nothing was left to chance in the forest the best known and most famous of the island. The vegetation is mainly composed of hybrid mahoganys and some Caribbean pines. However, there are also martinican essences such as cheesemonger, olive, white wood, wood river... and the only giant cheesemonger of the forest with a circumference of 5.50 meters.
In addition, this forest is home to a rock engraved (petroglyphs) in the edge, the historical relic attesting to the presence and influence of Native American civilizations during the pre-Columbian era. A double-marked trail was built. The course "Anoli" is a path where the 900m walk takes about 30 minutes, the other route the "Mangouste" is a little longer, it is about 1.6 km and lasts one hour. Along the way you will also be informed on forest vegetation and its history. Bring good walking shoes.
