Petit îlet is the only islet of the town of Rivière-Salée. It is located in the Bay of Génipa near the mouth of the Rivière Salée that gave its name to the town. It measures approximately 100 meters long and 80 meters wide.
It is an uninhabited islet ... by human, but you can see roosters and chickens that live in the wild for many years.
It is a volcanic islet. It is relative flat only 11 meters above the level of the sea.
Petit îlet now belongs to the State. It was built with State and European Union subsidies.
It has a dock that allows boats to dock, a hut and a wooden table for a picnic.
In the remains of this islet, we could detect the presence of Carib Indians because of the cups (small bowls) dug into the volcanic rock.
It is possible to visit especially during excursions in the Bay of Génipa. Companies propose to explore the area with canoe-kayak or small boat.
