Victor Depaz was born in Saint-Pierre for Périnelle Habitation. His parents were rich "békés" exploiting the home. He had three brothers.

He studied at Bordeaux occurs when the eruption of Mount Pelee, May 8, 1902, which decimated his family, as well as the eponymous distillery. At 16, he is an orphan and ruined, but returned to Saint-Pierre.

Turned industrialist, he bought 521 hectares of wastelands of Habitation Pécou, and May 8, 1917, it challenges the new road Depaz Distillery, which occurred since the famous rum Depaz.

He also built the Castle Depaz, where he settled with his wife. The couple had eleven children of Henry and Andre twins who take the paternal succession.

Victor Depaz, with the assistance of Bishop Lequien, is still in the rebuilding initiative, between 1923 and 1929, the Notre Dame de l'Assomption Cathedral, Mouillage Church destroyed in 1902.

Victor Depaz was also mayor of Saint-Pierre from February 1941 to July 1943.

He died in Paris November 7, 1960.
