Anse Belleville

Anse Belleville is a Le Prêcheur beach located between downtown and Anse Céron.

Like its sister beaches, its sand is black, due to the eruptions of Montagne Pelée. The beach is frequented mainly by local residents, who come to swim, especially at weekends.

If you'd like to enjoy a dip in the sea on a black sandy beach, you've come to the right place. It is bordered on the west by a huge cliff.

To get there from Fort-de-France, take the N2 to Saint-Pierre, then the D10 towards Le Prêcheur, and continue past downtown towards Anse Céron. A sign announces Anse Belleville.

Anse Turin

Anse Turin beach is one of the few black sand beaches in Martinique. Its sand bears witness to Martinique's volcanic past, which dates back nearly 24 million years. If you get there early, you'll be able to see fishermen practicing seine fishing.

This beach is famous for three historical reasons.

  • It is said to have been the site of shipwrecks sunk by the eruption of Montagne Pelée.
  • It is also famous for having been painted by Gauguin, who lived in the commune during his stay in Martinique.
  • Its cliffs still bear the scars of cannon fire during the many wars between the French and English for possession of the island.

A small museum dedicated to Gauguin is nearby.

Anse Turin is very popular at weekends.

It is equipped with toilets and showers. On the right-hand side of the beach, there's a fantastic panorama of Montagne Pelée, the island's volcano.

To get there, head for Le Carbet and then Saint-Pierre.

Anse Noire

Known for its unique black sand, Anse Noire is a must-see attraction if you're exploring the southern part of Martinique.

The water is calm and crystal clear, though occasionally large waves may form. You might even spot a sea turtle, which seems to have made this beach its home.

After storms from the Caribbean side, the beach can be scattered with pebbles, but they don’t prevent a comfortable swim. From the shore, you can admire the city of Fort-de-France directly across the bay.

A small jetty adds charm, especially for those who love diving into the sea. If you're an early riser (around 5–6 AM), you might witness local fishermen practicing traditional seine fishing.

This beach is usually quiet and less frequented—many visitors opt for its twin, Anse Dufour, located nearby.

Beyond its sand, Anse Noire is also renowned for the beauty of its underwater scenery. So don’t forget your mask and snorkel for a dive!

If you're in the south, head toward Les Anses d'Arlet, then take the D7 road toward the commune of Les Trois-Îlets. You’ll see a sign pointing to Anse Dufour and Anse Noire. From Les Trois-Îlets, continue on the D7 until you see the same sign. After turning toward the beaches, a small parking lot will allow you to park and fully enjoy your visit.

Anse Céron

Anse Céron, in the commune of Prêcheur, is well worth a visit for its grey-black volcanic sand.

The beach is bordered by coconut and grape trees, and there is a great deal of vegetation. The water is crystal-clear. So don't forget your mask, snorkel, and flippers to admire the seabed.

The nearby islet, îlet la Perle, is renowned for its seabed.

Picnic tables and showers are available.

It's a beach that has become popular over time. Its authenticity appeals to tourists looking for something different from the white-sand beaches of the south.

To get there via Fort-de-France, follow the signs for Saint-Pierre, then Le Prêcheur, and continue towards Anse Couleuvre. The entrance to Anse Céron will be mentioned.
