Le Marin Marina is now the largest nautical base in the Caribbean and the leading hub for tourist boat rentals, thanks to its fleet of 220 vessels, the character of the site, and the quality of its services. It embodies sailing and boating in all their diversity.
The marina currently offers 750 berths and 100 mooring buoys—an increase of 110 berths and 30 buoys since the creation of the “second basin,” the port’s major expansion.
Located in an ideal sailing zone with more than 50,000 boats—sailboats, motorboats, day‑rental craft, cabin‑charter vessels, and MegaYachts over 24 meters—circulating throughout the Lesser Antilles, recreational boating grew rapidly in the 1980s.
Martinique became a strategic stopover for sailors heading south toward the Windward Islands or north through the Caribbean. Le Marin offered a direct link to Saint Lucia and the Caribbean Sea to the east. The first phase of the port’s development began in the mid‑1980s with the Departmental Nautical Plan, which recognized the site’s potential and its importance for regional development.
The port was initially equipped with floating docks and facilities for 119 boats. The second development phase took place in the mid‑1990s, with the construction of the floating “quai d’honneur” or wharf—204 meters long and 5 meters wide—able to accommodate 60 to 90 sailboats between 20 and 35 meters, moored to heavy ground tackle weighing 2.5 to 4.5 tons. By 1993, its capacity had reached 330 berths.
Today, the Port of Le Marin offers 750 berths, along with around one hundred mooring buoys.
